Despite Indiana being a state that typically goes red, that didn't stop Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama from opening an office in downtown Muncie on Saturday.

Five other locations opened across the state on Saturday. The other offices are located in Evansville, Fishers, Fort Wayne, South Bend and Lafayette.

Trustees approve 6.6 percent undergraduate tuition increase for fall

Incoming freshmen and undergraduate transfer students will pay $324 per credit hour in the fall, a 6.6 percent increase.

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees unanimously approved the increase at its Thursday meeting over two other options.

A student taking a total of 30 credit hours for two semesters will pay $9,720 for tuition instead of last falls' $9,120.

A May 30 e-mail from Eastern to H&H Shuttle Taxi Inc. put shuttle bus services in doubt, but Dan Nadler announced Monday that an in-house program has been finished and is in place.

Two brand new busses have been leased for a cost of $50,000 per year, and the university is in the process of acquiring insurance and hiring bus drivers.

Nuri is enrolled this summer in the WESL Institute to polish his English skills before heading to Illinois State University in the fall to pursue a degree in computer science.

Macomb police officer rewarded for saving woman's life

A month ago, the courageous acts of a local police officer were rewarded. Officer James Rowland of the Macomb Police Department received the Life Saving Medal award June 6 for saving an attempted suicide victim.

Rowland was one of the officers responding to a suicide complaint on March 18 when a suicidal woman shot herself in the chest.

Citizens for Recycling, a new advocacy group formed two weeks ago, organized the event. The group's main goal is to work on pushing progressive recycling ordinances in Charleston.

Students planning to live at Burnham 310 on east Springfield Avenue in Champaign will be looking for temporary residence for the beginning of the fall 2008 semester - but it seems those options are now limited to off-campus locations.

In a letter sent last week to lessees from Burnham 310 developers, tenants were informed they would be able to sign month-to-month leases with other local realty groups until their new unit becomes available for move-in.

On July 1st, 2008, sales tax in Chicago officially became the highest in the nation, at a rate of 10.25%. Todd Stroger, President of the Cook County Board, pushed for the one percent increase to help cover funding in his budget. The 39th Annual Chicago Pride Parade got off to a rousing start when a convertible with a large "Thank You, California" sign drove down Halsted Street. Robert Castillo and John Pennycuff, a Logan Park couple who have been together for seventeen years, held up their marriage license as the crowd cheered.
