Most flood-damaged properties in Iowa City are unlikely to qualify for federal buyouts.



Buyout aid throughout Iowa is estimated to total approximately $43 million, said Iowa City City Manager Michael Lombardo. Iowa City has more than $50 million worth of damaged homes that have been flooded this year, he said, and the total in Cedar Rapids could be around $100 million.

Members of Facebook group "Save the Illini and Saluki: Illinois's War on Amtrak" were a small portion of an overwhelming voice that influenced legislators to halt measures to eliminate two popular train lines through Carbondale. After Gov. Rod Blagojevich and other state officials pledged to continue funding for Amtrak, legislators are looking for other ways to deal with the budget deficit.

The story of a 4-year-old girl who was severely injured after a dog attack in Carbondale could change regulations on pets and their owners in the city. Rosie Gordon, who celebrated her fourth birthday Wednesday in a transitional care unit in St. Louis, is recovering from surgery to replace portions of her face taken by an American bulldog in an attack June 19, according to a blog maintained by her mother.

Maggie Anderson stepped through the doorway of the UI Art Museum Wednesday for what might be the last time.



The devastating floods have made a permanent relocation a very real possibility for the museum.



As cleanup is underway, university officials are faced with the difficult task of deciding whether to move the museum's collection to another permanent location, or whether to wait it out and see if the current site can still be brought back up to its original state.

According to city traffic data, Erickson's location near the corner of Hill Street and State Street has the 15th highest crash rate of the nearly 1,200 intersections in Ann Arbor.
